Talking Biotech is run by Dr. Kevin M. Folta, Professor and Chairman of the Horticultural Sciences Department at the University of Florida. His laboratory studies how plants sense and respond to various wavelengths of light, and how LED illumination can be used to control plant traits. His lab also examines the genetic basis of key plant traits using modern genomics tools.
Communication has always been a centerpiece of his program. He provides frequent workshops on oral presentation of science, as well as discussions on applying persuasion and argument to grant and manuscript writing.
Dr. Kevin Folta has spoken to hundreds of scientific and public audiences about the strengths and limitations of biotechnology, as well as how to communicate the ideas most effectively.
